Peter Pan Bus Lines continues to invest in newer coaches that utilize cleaner engine technology using only Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel fuel, which virtually eliminates emissions and 90 percent of particulates (black smoke). New engine technology was introduced into the marketplace in 2007. An accelerated fleet replacement program has Peter Pan replacing older coaches with newer models featuring Cummins engines and Allison B-500 transmissions programmed for maximum fuel efficiency.
Motor coaches release less carbon dioxide than any other mode of powered transportation and use 82 percent less fuel per passenger mile than even a hybrid car. Each fully occupied motor coach has the potential of removing 55 autos from the highway. That’s millions of cars not driven annually, saving fuel, cutting emissions and reducing congestion.
In addition to featuring energy-smart motor coaches, Peter Pan also recycles motor oil, oil filters, batteries, antifreeze, scrap metals, tires, paper, cardboard and ink cartridges. All of these materials are 100% recycled at Peter Pan’s facilities. The company has a Compliance Manager position, with responsibility to assure all facilities follow company policies.
A “Best Green Practices” award celebrates employees’ green leadership contributions, and comes with a cash reward. Presented at the company’s annual employee recognition banquet, the award incentivizes employees to go above and beyond everyday green practices.
Not only do all drivers go through an extensive training program with 180 hours of classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction that teaches best practices at conserving fuel, Peter Pan requires drivers to comply with anti-idling policies and driving habits that also help to conserve fuel. All coaches are equipped with a GPS system that tracks idling and monitors speeds and excessive braking.
Serving nearly 100 communities, Peter Pan is using more web-based services, including posting of schedules and paperless ticketing, and serves more than 4 million passengers annually.
When You Travel with Us, You Go “Green!”
Peter Pan buses are the most energy-efficient mode of transportation…twice as fuel-efficient as Amtrak and other train services…three times as efficient as automobiles…and four times as efficient as commercial aviation.
All Peter Pan vehicles operate using Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) and/or biodiesel fuel making Peter Pan buses a huge part of America’s energy solution.
Our vehicles are purchased with state-of-the-art emissions-lowering technology to reduce polluting particulate emissions by 90%.
Our coaches also use a unique Global Positioning System ( GPS), which enables us to control/eliminate unnecessary idling. GPS allows us to monitor speed and braking patterns, thereby saving 5% on tire wear and saving 8% in fuel economy.
Peter Pan maintenance facilities use low mercury, high-energy efficient fluorescent bulbs that are recycled upon replacement.
New Environmentally-Friendly Buses
Peter Pan achieves Green Coach Certification for Clean Engine Technology. How do we do it?
Each Peter Pan motorcoach can replace 55 autos from the highway… saving fuel, cutting emissions and reducing congestion. They currently provide 184 passenger miles per gallon (MPG)… more than double the second most fuel-efficient transportation alternative.
Peter Pan motorcoaches produce carbon emissions of only 56 grams per passenger, compared to 371 grams for a passenger car. Our motorcoaches use 946 BTUs per passenger mile compared to 3,890 for planes and 2,134 for trains.
Peter Pan motorcoaches emit the least amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) per passenger than any other transportation vehicle. CO2 emissions are reduced by an average of 85% per passenger mile for every person who chooses to travel on a Peter Pan coach vs. driving alone.
