Visit Hartford, Connecticut

Dubbed the “Insurance Capital of the World” for the many modern insurance company headquarters that adorn its impressive skyline, Hartford is Connecticut’s capitol city and home to a diverse mix of culture, education and entertainment.

Literature buffs know Hartford as the hometown of two famous authors who are commemorated in a couple of of the city’s most popular attractions. The Mark Twain House and Museum is where Samuel Clemens wrote some of his most popular works.

Hartford is also home to the first public art museum in the United States with its Wadsworth Atheneum which houses some 50,000 pieces from the ancient to the contemporary.

Another first for the city is Bushnell Park which was America’s first public park. The inner city sanctuary is the site of some 37 acres of lawns, sculpture, fountains and a not-to-be-missed Stein & Goldstein carousel that dates back to 1914.

A popular stop on any visit to Hartford is the Connecticut Science Center, a 154,000 square foot, 9 story museum that boasts more than 165 hands-on exhibits and a 3D digital theater, among its many other attractions.

Long a hub of distinguished educational institutions, Trinity College, the University of Connecticut School of Business, the University of Connecticut School of Law and the University of Hartford all call this Southern New England city home.

When it comes to offering world-class entertainment, Hartford steps up to the plate with the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts, the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and Comcast Theatre, a state of the art indoor/outdoor, amphitheatre-style performance venue.

Sports fans know the city for its Hartford Wolf Pack, the AHL hockey team that plays at the XL Center in the heart of the downtown. The XL Center is also home to some of the higher-profile games for both the men’s and women’s UConn Huskies basketball teams.
