Peter Pan Bus Lines, Inc. is thrilled to announce that it has been named one of the 14 recipients of the fiscal year 2024 Intercity Bus Security Grant Program (IBSGP) funds, awarded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. This prestigious grant is part of a broader $1.2 million initiative aimed at enhancing the safety and security of motorcoach operations across the nation.
As a leading provider of motorcoach services in the Northeast corridor of the United States, Peter Pan Bus Lines is committed to ensuring the safety and security of its passengers and facilities. The IBSGP funding will be instrumental in helping the company implement advanced security measures, including the installation of security cameras, driver shields, and GPS tracking systems. These upgrades are part of our ongoing efforts to mitigate security threats and maintain the highest standards of safety for our customers and employees.
“We are honored to be among the recipients of this critical funding, which underscores our commitment to providing safe and secure travel experiences,” said Peter Picknelly, President and CEO of Peter Pan Bus Lines. “The support from the Intercity Bus Security Grant Program allows us to continue investing in state-of-the-art security technologies and training programs that protect our passengers and ensure our operations remain resilient in the face of evolving threats.”
Since the tragic events of September 11, 2001, the American Bus Association (ABA) has been a staunch advocate for increased federal funding to support the security needs of the motorcoach industry. Peter Pan Bus Lines, along with other ABA members, has played a pivotal role in securing nearly 95 percent of the $121 million in security grant funding awarded to the industry since 2003. The FY 2024 grants required a 50% private cost match or in-kind contribution, highlighting the industry’s dedication to safeguarding its operations without solely relying on federal assistance.
“ABA continues to champion the security of our nation’s motorcoach industry, and we are proud of the innovative efforts our members have implemented with the support of the Intercity Bus Security Grant Program,” said Fred Ferguson, President & CEO of the ABA. “This funding is vital to safeguarding passengers, and we urge Congress to recognize the ongoing need for these critical resources to ensure the industry remains resilient in the face of evolving threats.”
Peter Pan Bus Lines remains steadfast in its mission to provide safe, reliable, and affordable transportation to the over 100 communities it serves daily. With routes connecting major metro areas such as Baltimore, Boston, Hartford, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC, the company is poised to continue leading the way in motorcoach security and passenger safety.
