Peter Pan's 75th and Driver To Be Celebrated, Surprised
Springfield, MA - Peter Pan driver Everett Anderson, who recently completed his 38th year of accident-free driving, will be honored for his accomplishment at the Affliated Chambers of Commerce of Greater Springfield breakfast on Wednesday, Nov. 5, which begins at 7:15 a.m. at the Cedars (375 Island Pond Road).
As a surprise for Anderson, a new model Peter Pan coach will be unveiled with a wrap "Three Million Miles of Accident-Free Driving - Everett Anderson" to be unveiled at approximately 9 a.m. Peter Pan's 75th anniversary is also being saluted at the breakfast.
Anderson is one of a handful of motorcoach or commercial truck drivers nationwide to become a three million mile safe driver, according to officials at the National Safety Council. He is the second Peter Pan motorcoach operator to reach this milestone.
After breakfast, Anderson will be available for photos at Peter Pan's downtown Springfield terminal. He will then be honored at a noon luncheon at Peter Pan's Springfield headquarters. (Both the terminal and headquarters are at 1776 Main Street.) Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno will present a proclamation from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
The company annually recognizes its one million and two million mile accident-free drivers. One million miles of accident-free driving translates into 12 years of operating a Peter Pan coach without an accident. Recognition of million mile drivers is a significant achievement as even small "fender-benders" are considered accidents.
A Springfield resident, Anderson began driving for Peter Pan in 1970. During his tenure with the company, he has received its highest honor, the Peter C. Picknelly Founder′s Award for excellence and the Mrs. Picknelly, Sr. Award - Driver of the Year.
According to Peter Pan President Peter A. Picknelly, "Everett Anderson is one of the best of the best. He is one of our most requested drivers, and has received absolutely every award the company gives to our drivers. National Safety Council records indicate that very few drivers nationwide have ever achieved this status over the past 50 years. It is an astonishing accomplishment."
Picknelly said, "Peter Pan makes overall safety and the training and track record of our drivers a priority. Our company is honored to have a professional of Everett′s caliber behind the wheel and we are very proud of his achievement."
Peter Pan serves over 100 communities throughout the northeast corridor with daily express scheduled service, including Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington DC.
