Stuff A Bus! Thanksgiving Food Drive

Mystic, CT - Beginning on Friday, Nov. 9, 2007 the A&P Super Foodmart on Route 1 in Mystic will be holding a Thanksgiving food drive. The food drive will collect non-perishable items and turkeys daily, until Sunday, Nov. 18.

A bus, donated by Peter Pan Bus Lines, will be on site at the A&P on select days to collect donated items. An in store collection bin will also be available for people to drop off donated items at the A&P from Nov. 9 to Nov. 18. The Gemma E. Moran United Way Labor Food Center frozen food truck will also be on site daily to collect turkeys.

The food drive is organized by Weichert Realtors/Suburban Properties of Mystic, CT.  Owners Vince & Pam Engingro and fellow real estate agents recognize that the need to help the hungry in our community is much greater than the available supply.  The Stuff a Bus campaign will help close the gap.  The United Way of Southeastern Conecticut estimates that there is a year-to-date shortfall of 200,000 pounds of food compared to the same time last year.

The Gemma E. Moran United Way Labor Food Center distributes food to needy families throughout New London County through community meal sites, shelters for the homeless, after school programs, food pantries, shelters for victims of domestic abuse and programs for the elderly.

The Stuff a Bus program is currently looking for the following items to be donated for local families this Thanksgiving: macaroni and cheese, dry cereals, canned soups, peanut butter, pasta, canned vegetables (carrots, yams, peas, green beans, etc.), tuna, spaghetti sauce, dry beans, Thanksgiving dinners, canned gravy and turkeys.

The food drive is sponsored by the Weichert Realtors in Mystic, A&P Super Foodmart, Peter Pan Bus Lines, Quinn & Gellar Marketing, and Classic Hits 98.7.

To make a monetary donation, checks may be made out to The Gemma E. Moran United Way Labor Food Center.  To volunteer your time, please contact Kathleen at 860-444-0448 or email kathleen@quinnandgellar.com
