University of Massachusetts President Robert L. Caret is beginning a statewide bus tour this week. The educator wants to reach out to Commonwealth residents to see how the university can better serve the public. As he makes stops throughout the state, Dr. Caret will be traveling aboard an Executive Coach provided by Peter Pan Bus Lines.
Caret, who took over the president’s position in July of this year, plans to connect with citizens, business leaders and elected officials to get their input on what the UMass system can do better. He’ll also be addressing the need to come up with additional financial resources as the struggling economy presents challenges to the five-school system.
Caret has made it his public goal to make the University of Massachusetts one of the nation’s top 25 public research universities. He is also committed to the $3.1 billion expansion plan approved by the Board of Trustees last month, which will include construction and renovation of science labs, dormitories and athletic facilities.
According to Peter A. Picknelly, President of Peter Pan, “Our company and our family have a long history of providing service to the University of Massachusetts. They are an important part of our company and of the communities we serve. We are honored to be able to help President Caret in his mission to advance higher education in the Commonwealth.”
Peter Pan’s Executive Coach will take the President to appearances in North Adams, Pittsfield, Springfield, Holyoke, Worcester, Lowell and New Bedford.
